As a symbol of respect for the Qur’an, it is more suitable to hold it in your right hand. The Prophet sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam’s (may Allah exalt his mention) Sunnah served as an example of why it is preferable to use the right hand whenever possible.

“That the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam (may Allaah glorify his mention) used to prefer to start with the right hand or right side (over the left) when putting on his shoes, combing his hair, putting on perfume, and in all his things,” said ‘Aa’ishah, may Allaah be pleased with her.(Both Muslims and Al-Bukhari)
