The word ’Eid’ originates from the Arabic Word ‘Aada’ which means returning. The two Eids of Muslims periodically returns again and again in every year.
The history of Eids
After migration, Prophet Muhammad SAW observed that the people of Madina celebrated two days with joy and happiness. Once, he gave the good news that Almighty Allah has replaced two days with the two days of Eid, Eid-ul-adha, and Eid-ul-fitr.
After completing the fasting in the month of Ramazan, Muslims celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr. Similarly, after completion of Hajj and particularly in regard to the sacrifice of Prophet Ibrahim (Peace be upon him).
Celebrating Eid-ul-fitr
The Muslims celebrate Eid-ul-fitr for three days. People wear new dresses. They offer a special prayer of Eid-ul-fitr in the morning after sunrise. The Muslims greet each other on the occasion of Eid. Sweat dishes become part of the everyday routine of eating. The Muslims exchanges sweat dishes with each other.
Children get gifts from their elders. In all Muslims countries, Eid-ul-fitr is a national festival, as well as the Islamic festival. All the offices and shops became close except for Bakeries and grocery shops. All the people enjoy a lot these three days.
Celebrating Eid-ul-adha
Similarly, Eid-ul-adha is celebrated for three days. The Muslims make sacrifices and divide the meat among poor and needy. The Muslims offer a special prayer of Eid-ul-adha in the morning. After offering payers, The Muslims make sacrifices in commemoration of the sacrifice of Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him).

With meats, sweat dishes also become part of the dining table. All the people enjoy a lot celebrating Eid-ul-adha. Eid-ul-fitr comes on the 1st day of the 10th month of the Islamic calendar. However, Eid-ul-adha comes on the 10th day of the final month of the Islamic calendar.

Etiquettes of Celebrating Eid-ul-adha
Allah says in the holy book of the Quran,
“ No doubt, Ibraham became an example in regard to obedience to Almighty Allah, and he was not one from the pagans. He was indebted to our blessings. We bestowed him and guided him towards the right path. We offered him reasonable for him in this world, and in the next world, they would be with the right people.”
The holy Prophet Muhammad SAW said,
“The day of sacrifice is the greatest day in the sight of Allah.”
The present Ayah of the holy book of the Quran and the Hadith establishes the importance of the Eid-ul-adha, which is one of the most beautiful days for all of the Muslims. Eid-ul-adha is not the day in which only sacrifices are made. Comprehensive remembrance of Allah, offering special Eid’s prayer, reciting Takbeer, and the division of meets are among the essential religious rituals on the day of Eid.
Etiquettes abide by the Muslims regarding the celebration of this day:
- Taking a bath prior to the Eid’s prayer
According to the Muslims scholars, it has agreed that on Eid’s day, it is beneficial to take a bath before going to offering special prayer.
- Cooking the meat of the sacrifice made
Cooking the meat of the sacrifice is the practice, which is common in the houses of Muslims. We should divide the meet also as soon as possible so that the poor can also cook the meat.
- Reciting Takbeer
Reciting takbeer is another essential work on the day of Eid-ul-adha. With all other routine work, we should recite the takbeer necessarily.
- No eating until offering prayer
For Eid-ul-fitr, it is useful to eat something before the special Salah. However, for Eid-ul-adha, it is vice versa, we should not eat something before offering prayers, although it is not obligatory.
- Prefer to offer the special prayer on open place
It is useful to offer special prayer to open places. The government should be bound to select the places for special prayer, although it is not obligatory.
- Use different ways to reach and come back to home for Eid’s prayer
Although it is not obligatory, it is useful if you are going to Eid’s prayer, use the way which you will not use to come back to home.
Similarly, use another way to come back home.
- Must attend the special prayer of Eid
It is of utmost necessary to go to the special prayer. The Muslims are not allowed to sit in the home during prayer’s timing.
Muslims scholars strictly prohibit not offering prayers. It is a clear invitation to God’s punishment.
- Remove all the feelings of resentments
It is necessary to remove all the feelings of resentment and displeasure while one meets someone on the day of Eid.
Etiquettes of celebrating Eid-ul-fitr
There are some etiquettes regarding the celebration.
- Taking a bath before going to the mosque for special prayer
It is useful, not obligatory, to take a bath before going to the mosque for offering the special prayer of Eid-ul-fitr. It is a universal rule that we should clean ourselves before going to any gathering.
- It is necessary to learn the Eid prayer’s method
The special Eid prayer is not common. It comes twice a year. Therefore, it is essential to learn the method of this prayer.
Commonly, it comprises on Two Rakah.
Zakah and other Islamic charities are the funds by which we help the poor by order of Almighty Allah. It is necessary to give these charities before a special occasion.
There are thousands of needs of people, which fulfills by the money of Zakah and other Islamic charities.
- Something eats before going to special prayer
It is necessary to eat something before going to special prayer, although it is not obligatory. It is also the Sunnah of our Prophet Muhammad SAW. It is useful not to eat something before the special prayer of Eid-ul-adha.
- Particularly meet with the annoyed people
There are some etiquettes, which are necessary to follow. For example, the adult should greet their elders. Rich should greet poor people. Similarly, it is necessary to greet annoyed people.
Our beloved Holy Prophet Muhammad SAW emphasized this matter a lot, even on casual occasions.
- Necessary to attend the Eid’s prayer
It is essential to participate in the Eid’s prayer for the Muslims. According to Islamic scholars, it is vital for an adult Muslim not to remain in during offering prayer.
And, it is of their own benefit when the Muslims gather and pray, Almighty Allah does accept theirs prays.
The occasion of Eid is the real award and blessings of Allah. It is the occasion, which spreads happiness, love, and joy. We should not make it the occasion, which spreads hate.
We should remember the poor and needy people over these occasions. It is of vital importance to winning the favor of God.
Sunnahs of the Prophet Muhammad SAW on Eid
There is some act of Prophet SAW on this occasion; Every Muslim must follow these acts.
- Dua at the occasion of Eid
Holy Prophet SAW said, “Five occasions when Allah does not reject dua, the night of Eid-ul-fitr and Eid-ul-adha is the part of that five occasions.
That is why it is necessary to pray on occasion,
- Something before prayer
It is the Sunnah of the Prophet SAW to eat before the special prayer of Eid-ul-fitr.
Holy Prophet SAW used to eat dates before going to the special prayer this day.
- Reciting Takbeer
Reciting takbeer on Eid-ul-adha is the Sunnah of the Prophet SAW. We should recite Takbeer more and more.
- Congratulation on this occasion
It is also the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad SAW to congratulate. Adults should greet their elders. Rich should greet the poor, and the children should be given away gifts.
This is the occasion of happiness, joy, and pleasure. It is necessary to keep the hatred away on this happy occasion.
- Applying perfumes
It is also the greatest Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad SAW to apply perfumes on the body. We should exercise care that most of the perfumes make with the Alcohol. We should avoid to use it.
Prayer
There is a special prayer of Eid, which offers after the sunrise in the morning. This prayer has a specific method which is different from the method of ordinary payers.
The method is as follows.
It comprises two Rakah. It begins with the three takbeer. After Sannah, the rest of the prayer will be like the common prayer. In the second Rakah, three takbeer after going to Rakhooh (Subkhana Rabi-Ul-Azeem). After 1st and 4th takbeer, an individual should stand like the common prayer with hands on abdomen with each other arms. In the second Rakah, an individual should stand while performing Takbeer without hands on abdomen with each other arms. And go to Rakhoo in a similar condition. After paying salutation, Imam will give a sermon, and in the end, pray is offered.
