You must do certain things to perform the Tahajjud prayer correctly.
- You should offer it after the Isha prayer and before the Fajr prayer. The best time to perform tahajjud is the last third of the night.
- You must ensure you have performed all of your prayers for the day.
- Second, you must ensure that you have slept for at least part of the night; it is best to sleep for a few hours before performing the Tahajjud prayer.
- Third, you must be awake and alert before beginning the prayer.
- Fourth, you must perform ablutions (Wudu) before beginning the prayer.
- It should be performed in a state of complete purity, both physically and spiritually. It means that one must have performed Wudhu or ablution before praying.

It was narrated that Ibn’ Abbas said:
“The Prophet (ﷺ) used to pray the night prayer two Rak’ah by two Rak’ah.” Sunan Ibn Majah 1321
Once you have done all these things, you are ready to begin the Tahajjud prayer.
Steps to Offer Tahajjud Prayer
The first step is to choose a place where you will feel comfortable and undisturbed while you pray. It is best to pray in your home if possible, but if not, any quiet place will suffice. The second step is to recite Surah Al-Fatihah and another surah from the Quran. It is best to recite Surah Al-Baqarah, but any surah will do.
After reciting from the Qur’an, it’s time for ruku’. In ruku’, you will bow down until your hands reach your knees while saying “Subhana Rabbiyal’ adhimi wa bihamdih” three times. Next, you will stand up straight and say “Sami’allahu liman hamidah” before going into sujud. In sujud, you will prostrate yourself on the ground while saying “Subhana Rabbiyal’ Azhim” three times. After sujud, you will sit up and say “Allahu Akbar” before going into another ruku’. You will repeat this cycle of ruku’ and sujud until you have completed two rakats.
