Pleasures of Paradise in Light of the Quran and Sunnah

The Pleasures of Paradise in Light of the Quran and Sunnah

The attainment of Paradise is the ultimate goal of every Muslim. Allah gives us vivid descriptions of Jannah (Heaven) in Islam through the Noble Quran and Prophetic Sunnah. Heaven, in Islam, is eternal and completely different from this fleeting, chaotic world in which we live. Indeed, Heaven will be a blissful abode for the believers to eternally live in peace, happiness, and contentment.

Some of the sublime rewards in Heaven, according to Islam, have been mentioned in the Quran’s verses about Jannah. The Quran certainly elaborates on some of the glorious aspects of Paradise and informs us that Jannah will contain everything a believer can desire. Thus, the residents of Paradise shall not experience any unfulfillment, sadness, or pain. We shall now take a look at some of the pleasures of Paradise in light of the Quran and Sunnah.

Eternal joy without any pain, hardship or dissatisfaction

All the enjoyment of this world is limited in its nature. In addition, there is inevitably hardship, pain, and suffering experienced in this limited earthly life. Regardless of one’s achievements, possessions, or status in the Dunya (worldly life), happiness does not last forever, and there are always ups and downs. One can have all the wealth, technology, and advanced medical facilities available, but sickness and death are among the inevitable facts of life.

No illness or death in paradise

Nobody is immune to falling ill in this brief life. Everyone is unquestionably powerless against the Will of Allah. Regardless of how well people look after their health, death cannot be postponed or averted. While people inevitably experience illnesses and death on earth, they also experience grief when they lose their loved ones or witness relatives suffer from diseases.

In Heaven, there will be no diseases, no pain and suffering, and surely no death. Unlike the Dunya, pleasure and enjoyment will be everlasting in Jannah, without any sorrow or affliction.

No hatred, enmity, or sin in paradise

On earth, hatred, enmity, rancor, backbiting, jealousy, offensive speech, and sin are indeed all too common. As a result, people regularly harm others with their hurtful words and deeds, causing offense and resentment. There are numerous ways in which bitterness and ill-feeling spread in this world.

In Paradise, however, there will be no malicious speech or evil deeds. Everyone will live in total harmony. Nothing that results in evil will be present in Heaven, and there will be no bitterness between people. In Heaven, there will only be righteous companionship, and everyone’s actions and deeds will be noble.

According to a Hadeeth in Saheeh Al-Bukhari, there will be no animosity or bitterness in Paradise, while everyone will praise Allah. In Surah Al-Waqi’ah, it is mentioned that there will be no sin or harmful speech in heaven, nothing but peace.

Allah stated in Surah An-Nisa that those who obey Allah and His Messenger (PBUH) will be in the noble company of those favored by Allah of the prophets, the truthful, the martyrs and the righteous. In Surah Al-A’raf, Allah specifies that He will remove any resentment believers harbor.

There will be no unfulfilled desires or financial struggles

Many people struggle financially in this life and experience poverty and hunger. There are also many who succeed in gaining abundant wealth but are never satisfied, as it is part of human nature always to want more. There are many people who experience depression and dissatisfaction despite amassing wealth in the Dunya.

In Paradise, one will not face any financial worries, poverty, or deprivation. People won’t feel unsatisfied with what they are blessed with. Indeed, in Paradise, Allah will grant the believers whatever they desire, so nobody will be left feeling like they lack anything. They will be blessed with all the luxuries and material possessions they dream of.

As stated in Surah Az-Zukhruf, there will be gold plates and gold vessels in Jannah, along with all that one desires and derives pleasure from. Moreover, this joy will last forever. Believers will be told to eat and drink in satisfaction as a reward for our striving in the Dunya, as mentioned in Surah Al-Haqqah.

In Surah Al-Kahf, believers are informed that they will stay in eternal gardens, with rivers flowing beneath them. They will wear gold bracelets and clothes of silk, as they rest on decorated couches. Such is their wonderful final abode.

Paradise will be eternal

Everything we experience in this world, whether it is positive or negative, is temporary. One may derive immense joy and excitement from a particular activity or possession, but nothing lasts forever. Furthermore, we may enjoy something for a period of time but eventually get tired of it and seek happiness elsewhere. Ultimately, one’s worldly pleasures are bound to draw to a close, as death is inevitable. Most humans don’t live for more than 70-80 years, and life on earth and the thrills of the Dunya are relatively brief.

In Jannah, however, Muslims will be in an eternal state of bliss, abiding in delight and tranquility forever. Their lives will not come to an end, and all the wonders of Paradise will be permanent. This is one of the most exhilarating facts about Jannah in Islam. Moreover, the charms of Heaven will not be limited in the happiness they bring to believers. People will never get tired of the wonders of Heaven or need something different to attract their interest. Hence, Jannah is an upright believer’s permanent destination of unbridled joy.

The pleasures of Paradise will be incomparable

One cannot even imagine how much greater each blessing of Heaven will be than the worldly pleasures we experience. The Quran informs us of the various delights of Paradise, but we cannot truly understand the wonders of Jannah from our worldly perspective.

The clothes, food, drink, etc. that will belong to the believers in Jannah will be vastly superior to their earthly versions. Verily, even the loftiness of the tiniest of places in Paradise will outweigh this world and all it contains. Its delights are truly beyond our imagination.

A Hadith in Sahih Al-Bukhari informs us that place in Heaven the size of a mere bow is superior to the whole world. According to a Hadith from At-Tirmidhi, one who enters Paradise will surely be full of happiness and never encounter sadness. The dwellers of Paradise abide there eternally indeed, without their clothes getting worn out, or their youth diminishing.

In Surah Al-Insan, Allah describes the joy of Heaven as one that is beyond our imagination. There is a Hadeeth in Saheeh Muslim that says what Allah has not told us is greater than what He has told us. In Surah As-Sajdah, we are told that no one is aware of what lies in wait for them as a reward for their deeds.

There will be nothing dirty, impure, or undesirable in Paradise

In Heaven, there will be no impurities. Its inhabitants will freely eat and drink its wonderful treats without even needing to defecate or urinate. As Allah tells us in Surah As-Saffat, there will especially be no intoxication or chaos upon drinking the wine of Heaven.

Women of Jannah will not menstruate, or experience postnatal bleeding or the pains of giving birth. In Surah Muhammad, Allah states that in Paradise, water will remain pure and uncorrupted, while milk will never undergo changes in its taste. There will indeed be rivers of delicious wine and pure honey, and all sorts of fruits.

Conclusion

The pleasures of paradise are such that most people can’t even begin to imagine them. It is definitely something for Muslims to strive for, which is one of the biggest motivations for us to live life on Earth according to Allah’s commands. If we follow His commands, then we can gain success in this life, but more importantly, in the hereafter as well, which is the ever-lasting success – much more important than anything in this life.
