The holy book of the Quran is the spiritual text of the religion of Islam, which contains material that is absolute to success. Every word, every verse and every chapter of the Holy Quran are accurate. Not a single line is without. The importance of the Quran cannot be denied, particularly for the life of the Muslim.
Surah Al-Baqrah is one of the large Surah of the Holy Quran. Every verse of this Surah has a lot of importance. The last two ayat (verse) of Surah Al-Baqrah has many benefits, which is beyond any capacity to measure.
The English translation of Surah Al-Baqrah
‘The holy messenger kept he believe in what was revealed by Allah, and so the believers keep their beliefs, Holy Messenger SAW, and believers keep believe on Allah, angels, his books and messengers, (Requesting) we do not make any difference between the messengers of Allah, And say, we hear (Orders) and we obey the order, your forgiveness.’
The Translation of Second verse of Surah Al-Baqrah
‘Allah Almighty does not burden a soul more than its caliber, it will have the result of what good it has obtained, it will bear the results of what evil he has done, our God does not impose upon us if we have unintentionally done something wrong, our God does not burden us like that which you have laid upon people before us, our God does not burden us with that for which we cannot bear, forgive us, pardon us, and have mercy on us, you are our guardian, so assist us over the disbelievers.’
These are the two translations of the last two verses of Surah A-Baqrah. Those two verses have extensive lists of benefits. Lets us see what these benefits are.
What benefits have these two verses?
There are different benefits of the last two verses of Surah Al-Baqrah. Surah Al-Baqrah benefits of last 2 ayat are following.
Hazrat Saeed RA and Ibn Abbas RA narrated the Hadith, ‘ Our beloved Prophet Muhammad SAW laughed whenever he recited the two last verses of the Surah-Al-Baqrah. Then, often, he used to say that ‘these two verses are from the treasure of Almighty Allah, which is under the throne, he recited ‘ one who does evil, will be given reward according to.’ Then he recited,’ one has nothing more than what he struggles for, then the fruits of striving for will be in front of him, then he will be rewarded, then he would sit back at ease.’
Allah has made us clear in the Quran that on the Day of Judgment, one will get for what he has done. There is not anyone who will give him something. That is why it is essential for us to do good deeds for our own.
These Ahadith are continually showing the importance of these last verses of Surah Al-Baqrah. These are continually compelling us to learn these precious verses of the Quran to take benefits. We should not miss the opportunity of blessings and rewards.
In another Hadith, narrated by Maqal ibn-yasar, in which Prophet Muhammad SAW said,’ Allah bestowed me with Faihat Al-Kitab and the closing of Surah Al-Baqrah from under the throne.’
This Hadith also shows enough importance of these verses of the Quran; these verses have exceptional status related to revelation. Moreover, it is enough to know the importance of these verses that, firstly, it is the part of the holy Quran, and secondly, it is from the treasure of Allah Almighty.
In some Hadith, the status of Ayatul-Kursi and the last two verses of Surah Al-Baqrah described equally. Indeed, Ayatul-kursi was also from the treasure of Allah.
When these verses revealed on our beloved Prophet Muhammad SAW that ‘Muhammad SAW kept on what was revealed by God,’ Ibn Jareer revealed that Prophet Muhammad SAW said that definitely, he believed what was from Allah.’ In another world, Prophet Muhammad SAW made a confirmation that what was revealing by Allah was true.
In another Hadith, narrated by Noman Al- Bashir RA, who was the most credible companion of the Prophet SAW, ‘ our beloved Prophet Muhammad SAW said,’ Allah completed it writing before two thousand years ago before the creation of sky and earth. Allah has sent down two verses for me. These are those two verses, which are important enough to recite because the absence of recitation of these two verses of Surah Al-Baqrah will invite.
According to the present Hadith, Prophet Muhammad SAW told us that these verses wrote before the creation of earth and sky. Allah does not understand any other Prophet or messenger able to hold these verses. It was the status of our beloved Prophet Muhammad SAW that Allah bestowed these verses to him.
In another Hadith, which narrated by Ibn Mardawaih on the authority of Hudaifah, ‘he said that we had given the upper hand by all of humankind from past by three things. We have given verses from the end of Surah Al-Baqrah form the treasure located under the throne, neither Allah gave these verses to anyone before me and nor he will give it to anyone after me.’
There is a different chapter of the Quran. All have their own importance. Different things described through it, for example, the order of prayer and the fasting, but some Surah is exceptional due to their status. The last verses of Surah Al-Baqrah have such kind of status. Due to its high status, its recitation brings a lot of blessings and rewards. We should try our best to secure these rewards.
These two verses guard the person at night.
According to a Hadith of the Prophet Muhammad SAW, ‘One who recites the last 2 Ayat of Surah Al-Baqrah, these two verses will become sufficient for him.’
When we sleep at night, we are exposing to all the dangers of evils and other dangerous things. There is only one who protects us from all evils, and all damages is Allah. Holy Prophet Muhammad SAW himself has clarified that we should get protection from Allah by reciting these two verses.
In another Hadith of our beloved Holy Prophet Muhammad SAW,’ I was bestowed with the two verses from the treasure, the treasure that is under the throne that was not given to other Prophets.’
Our Prophet Muhammad SAW has clarified the benefits of these two verses. Prophet Muhammad SAW said in his Hadith that these two verses of the Quran were not revealed by the conventional way. These two verses of the Surah Al-Baqrah was given to me from the treasure.
The gift of light
Ibn Kathir who has written the credible book of Tafsir, written in his book in the description of these two last Surah of the Surah Al-Baqrah, ‘When Prophet Muhammad SAW was accompanied with Gabriel, Muhammad SAW heard a noise from above, Gabriel lifted his mouth to sky and said,’ this is the gate which is on the sky, this gate never opened before, it has been opened now since its creation, after opening the door, the angel descended down and said the Prophet Muhammad SAW, ‘
please, receive the gift of two lights through which you have been bestowed, none of the other Prophet bestowed with these two things, these two things were the opener of the book of the Quran (Surah Al-Fatih) and the last two Ayah of Surah Al-Baqrah. You will not recite a letter from them, but you will be bestowed its benefits.’
It is the spirits and virtues of these verses, the confirmation of which has been provided by Ahadith of the Prophet Muhammad SAW.
In another Hadith, narrated by ibn Abbas RA, ‘Holy Prophet Muhammad SAW that Allah had sent me these two verses of the Quran, written by the hand of Allah two thousand years ago. The verses wrote by Allah before the creation of all these beings and things. One who can recite after Aisha’s prayer, they will stand for Tahajjad. This narrated in Mustadrak of Bayhaqi and Al-Hakim.
That is why we should make special efforts to learn these two verses of Surah Al-Baqrah. We should take the step to make our children and women learn these verses. According to Hazrat Umar RA and Ali RA, one who has sense in him or her, he or she would not go to bed without reciting these two last verses of Surah Al-Baqrah.
There are different noble features of the last two verses of Surah Al-Baqrah.
First, these verses come in the Surah Al-Baqrah in which a lot of order of Shariah was described. Different things described in this Surah, for example, modes of worship, morals and social livings, and mutual dealings. The first words of these verses describe the importance of the believers who never say no to their Allah; they are serious and obedient to Allah. In these verses, the supplication and request to Allah have made.
The next words of the first verse are the answer to the doubt, which distracts the attention of the believers. In these verses, Allah almighty says you will be accountable for what you will do. Similarly, you will be asked for what you will have in your heart. In fact, these verses show that Allah will interrogate you upon what you did, either it was bad or good.
The errors and thoughts, on which you have no grip, will never be the part of the questions, but the thought and errors, which will be intentional, must be part of the question. One must give the answer to it.
A Hadith about unintentional thought
Once a companion of the beloved Prophet Muhammad SAW asked from prophet SAW will be accounted for the thought which is unintentional and not in our control, for example, we have no control on the thoughts which come during prayer.
Unlike this Hadith, the first verse seems to advocate the accounting of all thought. Only Prophet Muhammad SAW knew the true meaning of these verses. Companions of the Prophet Muhammad SAW were still nervous, but they acted upon what they were advised by the Prophet Muhammad SAW. Then, Allah revealed the last two verses of Surah Al-Baqrah to clear the mind of the companion of Prophet Muhammad SAW. The first comprised of appraise of the Muslims, and the second cleared the doubt.
Description of several facts in these verses
The second last verse of Surah Al-Baqrah describes these facts towards us.
First seven words
If we see this verse, we all know that the first seven words of this Surah describe the admiration of the beloved Prophet of Muhammad SAW. We can seriously guess that Allah does not call him directly. It establishes his position as the messenger of Allah.
Prophet Muhammad SAW as a believer.
After that, we see the world of the believer. It describes the fact that Muhammad SAW is one of the believers. It means that Allah describes and establishes the reputation of his messenger as strong believers. It also describes the Eman of the beloved Prophet Muhammad SAW. We can easily guess that the information, which Prophet Muhammad SAW had was first hand while we, as the ordinary Muslim, have second-hand information.
One of the prominent things is that it separately discusses the Eman of the Prophet Muhammad SAW. It probably shows that no doubt all Muslims have Eman in their heart, but the level of Eman is different.
Description of faith
This verse describes the details of faith. Faith is also one of the common things between our beloved Prophet Muhammad SAW and the Muslims. Generally, Eman is the concept that Allah has existence, he is absolutely one, and he is the owner of different attributes. Faith one the concept of angels who works according to the order of Allah. Faith on the holy books, which sent and revealed by Almighty Allah. Faith on the messengers, sent by Almighty Allah.
The details call the faith of the Muslim.
Things prohibited to Muslims
One thing that clearly described in this Surah is the announcement that what the believer does not do. We are not supposed to do the things which have done by the previous nation; for example, Jews retained the concept that Mussa was the last Prophet. Similarly, Christian has its own belief. They did not accept Muhammad as the last Prophet of Allah.
Admiration of Ummah
Admiration of Ummah is the thing, which has described in this verse. The first characteristic is that it does not make any distinction in the messengers of Allah. This characteristic has described with the words that the companion of the Prophet Muhammad SAW said against all orders to Holy Prophet Muhammad SAW, for example, listened and obeyed.
We have observed that the first verse comprises of the admiration of the Prophet SAW and the Ummah.
The facts described in the second verse
The second last verse of Surah Al-Baqrah generates some doubts. That is why Allah has made these doubts clear for example; the first verse seems to describe that all the intentions are accountable. The companion of the Prophet Muhammad SAW doubted that those intentions, which come in our mind unintentionally on, which we do not have control, they will be accountable for.
Allah knew and cleared their doubt by the revelation of the last verse of Surah Al-Baqrah.
Allah says in this verse that he does not burden someone more than his capacity. That is why the thoughts, intentions, and feelings, which come in our mind, Allah, will never ask us about, but the deeds, which are intentionally and have a proper motive behind, will be accountable for. There is a clear direction given in this regard.
Generally, there are two types of actions. The first is a voluntary action, which is done with choice and selection. The help of different parts of the body is with us in these types of actions.
The second is the action that is involuntary; for example, one says something different from what is to say. The intentional help of the part of the body involves these types of action.
Deeds by the heart
There are also two kinds of actions by the heart. The action, which is voluntary, for example, Kufr, and Shirk, will be accountable for. These actions are accountable; it surely will cause punishment for the doer.
Some actions, which are involuntary, take place in the heart, for example, the entry of some evil feeling about someone. These voluntary actions are accountable.
Peace in the heart of Muslims
Allah has described in the last verse of Surah Al-Baqrah that the peace settled in the heart of the companion of Prophet SAW, they were now peaceful because there is no punishment on the involuntary action.
Moreover, Allah says that the reward will be those for what the man will do.
The meaning that this verse also promotes is that if one does something good, which pursues others to do like him, he will entitle to reward. Similarly, if one does badly either unintentionally if it promotes others to do this evil thing repeatedly, he will face the consequences, but Allah knows well.
Similarly, Ahadith prove that one can quickly transfer the reward of the good act to another person; for example, some people do Hajj in place of their dead father to give him a reward. Admittedly, these rewards will go to the person intended.
It makes visible that the reward can reach in two ways—one in which the person does for himself. The second is the way by which one can do the act of worship to send rewards to other people.
Special Dua
In the last, Allah makes us learn the special Dua for the forgiveness of our evil deeds. Sometimes, we present our good deeds to get forgiven our bad deeds.
Allah further makes us learn the prayer to say that O Allah doesn’t burden us more as such you have placed before people on us. O Allah does not burden us for which we have no capacity to bear.
These Duaz are very important for us because there were nations, which came before us, had several bans on them; for example, the piece of cloth could not make pure without burnt or cut. There were several other bans on them, which was hard to obey. Moreover, non-compliance would have resulted in punishment. That is why Allah has made us learn Duaz to prevent us from these bans.
Conclusion
In fact, the last two verses of Surah Al-Baqrah have a list of virtues and benefits. That is why it is necessary for us to make us learn these Surah to our children and the women. Moreover, the honor of these verses is not the same as the other verses of the Quran. According to Ahadith of the Prophet Muhammad SAW, it has given from the treasure, which is under the throne.
We are lucky enough to have the book of the Quran, and we are fortunate enough that we have these verses, which were given to only our Prophet Muhammad SAW.
The significance of these verses of Surah Al-Baqrah is visible by Ahadith of the Holy Prophet Muhammad SAW. First, we should try to memorize it. Then, it will be feasible for us to recite it verbally whenever we want. There are two methods of reciting; one is that we should go to mosque or seminaries to get the help of scholars, or we should get help from YouTube. The option of YouTube may be the best.
If we are not in a position to memorize, we should recite it with the help of the Quran. It is pertinent to mention that it is not obligatory.
That is why; we should understand the importance of these verses.
